Marie Acuna-Friend

Marie Acuna-Friend born August 2, 1960 went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven on Monday, May 7, 2012. Preceded in death by her father, Jose Acuna; two brothers, Alfonso and Sergio Acuna; brother-in-law, James Friend and mother and father-in-law, Esther and Victor Friend. Survived by her husband, Thomas Friend; mother, Celia De Acuna; brothers, Ramon, Oscar, Armando and Bill; her adopted daughters, Marina and Claudia; sisters-in-law, Susan, Cindy and Nancy; nieces, nephews and many friends throughout Tucson, AZ and back in North Carolina. A graduate from U of A, she taught 22 years in TUSD. She also started an immigrant service for the State of North Carolina and was a strong advocate for the protection of those that were less able to protect themselves by opening and running a Women and Children's shelter in North Carolina. Marie wouldn't hesitate to give of her time, money or effort to make this a better place. She will be very much missed and the world has become sadder and a less compassionate place now that she is gone. Visitation will be held at MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPELS on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Rosary 7:00 p.m. Mass will be on Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Margaret's at 10:00 a.m. with a burial at Holy Hope Cemetery. Services entrusted to MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPELS, 2580 S. 6th Ave., Tucson, Arizona.
