Jose Juan “John” Ochoa 73, of Tucson, AZ, passed away late Friday, January 31, 2014, holding his wife’s hand. Born in Tucson, the 14th of 15 children, John was an avid explorer and traveler whose career and activity in social justice, politics and Hispanic American rights followed his enlistment in the 101st Airborne Division, where he made friends for life. After college at Cal State Long Beach, John pursued a lifetime career in the news industry: owned a newspaper in Orange County, CA, and retired from the LA Times. An avid photographer, his photos of family, political leaders and stars not only show his talent, but also document his generosity, friendships, and connections that he made every day. John returned to his birthplace in Barrio Hollywood proudly connecting with his family and their legacy. He is survived by his wife, Josie De Falla, his daughters, Sandy and Christine; grandsons, Sal Vasquez and Steven Gonzalez; siblings, Lupe Romero, Ray, Frances Sotomayor, Angel, Soledad Ortiz, Bobby; and countless loving family members. Services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014: Visitation at 9:30; Rosary Service at 10:30; Mass at 11:30 at St. John Catholic Church, 602 W Ajo Way. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, where John will rest near his parents Angelita and Arcadio Ochoa and other family. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Chapels.
