Rosario LaPorta, 96, beloved father, was called home to the lord on March 6, 2016. He was born on January 4, 1920 in New York City, New York, born from Italian immigrants that came to this country, his parents Salvatore and Antonina (Nuccio) LaPorta.
Rosario and his beloved wife Angelina (Turco) of 64 years were blessed with two sons, Stanley James (Quintilla), Ross Salvatore (Donna) LaPorta, four grandchildren, DeShon & Michael LaPorta, Christine (Anthony) Herrera, Michelle LaPorta and 7 great-grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Julian, Izzak LaPorta, Mateo, Cortez, Avianna Herrera. He also was survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother Anthony (Agnes) LaPorta and four sisters Rosaria (Pete) Giacalone, Mary (Charles) Penzabene, Nancy (Eddie) Gorlach, Terry (Tom) Hickey.
As a young boy Rosario was a devoted New York Yankee fan and would attend as many games he could afford, and was at Yankee Stadium when Lou Gehrig gave his farewell speech on July 4th 1939. Even in his final years his wishes were to be dressed in Yankee attire, which we honored. Rosario was an Army Veteran and served as a Sergeant in World War 2 from 1942 - 1946 in Burma, now called Myanmar. After the war started working for the United States Main Post Office in New York City but due to his son constant battle with asthma moved to Tucson Arizona in 1962 for his health. He worked at the Helen Street Office in Tucson and finally retiring from the Cherrybell Post Office as Express Mail Manager in 1983.
The family wants to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at "Home Away From Home" and especially to Francis Medina for their loving care of my father.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Location: Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson, internment is at 1:00 PM at Holy Hope Cemetery (Prince and Oracle).
