Teresa Leal, 70, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister was called to her eternal resting place on May 1, 2016. She entered this world on September 22, 1945 in Navojoa, Sonora, Mexico born to Isabel O. Leal and Norberto Lopez. She is survived by her mother, Isabel Leal Ontiveros; sons, Jose Angel Soto Leal and Jose Roberto Soto Leal; daughters, Maria Teresa Soto Leal, Maria Socorro Soto Leal, Maria Isabel Soto Leal, Maria Guadalupe Margarita Soto Leal, Maria Asuncion Monserratt Soto Leal and Maria Veronica Soto Leal; brothers, Flavio Alfredo Lopez Lopez and Miguel Raymundo Lopez Lopez; sisters, Maria Margarita Lopez Lopez and Elsa Leonor Lopez Lopez; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Teresa was passionate about teaching others about the local history and was actively involved in bringing social justice to the border. She dedicated her time as curator for the Pimeria Alta Historical Society museum where she played several roles including the development of activities for children, providing assistance to local amateur historians and newspaper reporters as well as overseeing projects like the 100-year-old time capsule. Teresa made a positive difference to our community and became a voice for others who didn't have one. She no longer just belonged to her family but also belonged to the local community. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Chapels. A rosary will be recited at 11:00 a.m. Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with an interment in the Nogales Cemetery.
