Luis Gerardo Calvillo (Luis Muñoz Calvillo), 91, of Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully following a prolonged illness on Friday May 13, 2016 at La Cañada Care Center, Tucson AZ. Services for Luis Gerardo Calvillo will begin with Visitation from 5:00 p.m – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday May 17th, 2016 at Martinez Funeral Chapel, 2580 S. 6th Ave. Tucson AZ with Rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be officiated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson at the Cathedral of Saint Augustine 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 18, 2016. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at Holy Hope Cemetery 3555 N. Oracle Road Tucson, AZ. Luis was the fourth child of eight born to Roberto Muñoz Calvillo and Beatriz Gerardo Apodaca on August 25, 1924 in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. Luis is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by sons Luis Enrique, Daniel, Albert, Xavier, David, Raymond, Rodrigo and daughters Bertha Cecilia, Maria Elena, Maria del Carmen; sister Maria Jesus Albertina; twenty-two (22) grandchildren, twenty-seven (27) great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Prior to retiring at age 73, Luis enjoyed a lengthy career at Custom Mills, Inc. City of Industry, CA, and was one of the original residents of the newly built mid-century modern homes in burgeoning 1960’s Bassett, CA. Luis lived a life always ready to lend a helping hand to any friend or family member in need. Highlights of his entrepreneurial spirit are evidenced by the highly remembered Calvillo’s Bakery in Azusa, CA along with family-run Cine Colonia and Dulce Colonia in agricultural town Villa Juarez, Sonora Mexico. When questioned regarding his love of vintage vehicles, he would always recall his memories of driving a variety of classic vehicles owned by the Cananea Consolidated Copper Mining Company during wartime. His vintage miniature vehicle collection will forever be cherished by his descendants. A Memorial Luncheon will be served following the burial at Casa Calvillo Northwest.
