Maria Rzeslawski Cota, 88, was surrounded by her family when she was called to her eternal resting place on October 23, 2016. She entered this world on February 16, 1928 in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, born to David and Maria Cota Rzeslawski. She is survived by her son, Xavier Escalona; daughters, Norma R. de Navarro (Antonio) and Maria Elena Escalona (Raymundo); 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her son, Marco Antonio Rzeslawski and her siblings, Enrique, Olga and David Rzeslawski. Maria was a dedicated and hard-working business woman. She broke many molds and overcame several boundaries that were put in her way. She lived her life passionately and on her own terms. Very independent, she often traveled alone, by train, visiting different cities within the United States. Maria was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor. Proud of her heritage, Maria traveled throughout Mexico and also had the opportunity to visit Germany for her grand-daughter's wedding. In her past-time, she tested her luck at the Casinos. She was lovingly known as "Big Nana" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and provided them with an abundance of love. Her absence will leave a big void in the hearts of many but we have comfort knowing she lived her life to the fullest. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Chapels. Mass will be on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at San Felipe Catholic Church followed by a burial at Nogales Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Martinez Funeral Chapels, 891 W. Mariposa Rd., Nogales, AZ.
