Augustine Montiel, 81, beloved Father, was called to his eternal resting place on March 19, 2017. He entered this world on November 8, 1935 in Tucson, AZ, born to Augustine and Beatrize Montiel. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nelsie Montiel; his sons, Augustin Montiel III and Victor Rodriguez (Elvia) also by his daughter, Judy Collazo Foutch (Alfredo). He had six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. Augustine had three brothers; Jesus Montiel, Ramon Montiel and Fernando Montiel. His sisters were Rafaela Bracamonte and Sara Salgado. He also was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Augustine served in the Marines from 1954 - 1956, including Korea. Augustine preferred that everyone call him Gus. He loved all sports but his favorite was bowling. He ranked many times as one of the best bowlers in Tucson and competed throughout the city yearly. Some of his greatest achievements were scoring multiple 300 games. He loved the sport so much he volunteered each weekend to coach and mentor youth leagues. It wasn't uncommon to find Gus at the bowling alleys several times a week. It was his passion. He was a competitive boxer, a competitive semi-pro baseball player, as well as a decorated competitive bowler. He also loved fishing at Kennedy Park which has left us with fond memories. In 1998 he retired after working 33 years in the mines. This gave him more time to pursue time with his family and go to his favorite place in the world...Las Vegas. Gus loved Freemont street and the "old Vegas scene." The Cortez Hotel and Casino is where he loved to play the slots and walk around for hours. To win the jackpot didn't matter much...he just loved to be there. There are no words that can express our saddness in losing our father, grand-father and husband. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Martinez Funeral Chapels, 2580 S. 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85713.
