Gilbert V. "Califas" Davila, 78, passed away at home on June 28, 2010. Preceded in death by wife, Eva Davila; daughter, Gina Davila; sons, Gilbert and Michael Davila; sister, Josie Sanchez; brothers, Martin and Richard Davila and parents, Jose and Dolores Davila. Survived by children, Dina (Frank) Mistretta, Carlos (Naomi) Davila, Alberta (Philip) Martinez, Albert Davila, Maria Davila Sianez, Mary Lou (Carlos) Jaimez and Frances Rojas; sister, Grace Lopez; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Drafted at age 18 by the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Korean war in which he received the Purple Heart and Silver Star medal of honor for his heroism and bravery. He retired from the City of Tucson, Sanitation Dept. He was always encouraging us to do our best in everything and wanted to give us "power, wisdom and strength" from within him. He did this by always greeting everyone with his personal hand shake saying, "POWER". Califas, Pop, Daddy, Tata and Mr. D, you will be greatly missed but we know you were called home by our Great Lord and Savior to join our Mom, his wife of 46 years. Visitation will be at MARTINEZ FUNERAL CHAPELS Friday, July 2, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church.
