Alberto Canez, a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 26, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on May 2, 1939, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.
Alberto was known for his hard work and dedication to his craft. Though Alberto had to begin working at a very young age and was not able to finish schooling, he excelled in his career as a meat cutter and butcher. His expertise and knowledge were unparalleled, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and customers alike.
Beyond his professional life, Alberto was a man of many interests and hobbies. He found joy in horseback riding and team roping, always feeling a sense of freedom when astride his trusty horse. He also had a deep appreciation for nortena music and could often be found listening to its melodies. Albert enjoyed relaxing with a cold beer in hand while indulging in the simple pleasures of life like smoking a cigarette.
Alberto Canez will always be remembered for his warm and friendly personality. His infectious smile lit up any room he entered, making him instantly lovable. While he possessed a strong will and could be described as hard-headed at times, it only added to his charm. Alberto's presence brought happiness to those around him.
One of Alberto's proudest accomplishments was being part of the Bicentennial Celebration of 1976. In an act of determination and bravery, he rode a horse all the way from Mexico to Washington, D.C., symbolizing unity between neighboring nations during this monumental event.
Alberto leaves behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured by his family and friends. He is survived by his sons Albert Canez, Jesus Albert Canez Jr., Luis H. Canez; his daughter, Marcy Canez; grandchildren, Albert Canez, III, Catalina Canez, Luis A. Canez, Luis H. Canez, Jr., Veronica Canez, Robert Gonzales, Joshua Gonzales, Clarissa Zavala, Nicole Matuszak, Christopher Canez, Kenny Ramirez, Sarina Canez, Michelle Duran, Marcos Patino and Joe Morones; as well as 3 great-great-grandchildren. Their love and admiration for Alberto will continue to shine bright, keeping his spirit alive.
The services to honor and celebrate Alberto's life will be held on September 7, 2023. The visitation will take place from 8:00 AM to 9:45 AM at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson, Arizona. A prayer service will follow from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the same location. A Mass in remembrance of Alberto's life will be held at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, starting at 10:00 AM. Finally, a graveside service will take place at Holy Hope Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
Alberto Canez's essence will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy as a skilled meat cutter, his love for horseback riding and nortena music, and his warm-hearted nature will be cherished for years to come. May he rest in peace, knowing he has touched countless lives with his kindness and spirit.
