Alfonso Moreno Fajardo, a beloved figure in his community and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, at the age of 93 in Tucson, Arizona. Born on January 23, 1931, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, Alfonso was a man whose presence was marked by warmth and charm. Affectionately known as "Tata Mono," he carried with him an unmistakable spirit that endeared him to all who crossed his path.
Alfonso's life was rich with simplicity and joy. He cherished walking to the Placita in downtown Nogales, where he would spend leisurely days surrounded by friends. His later years were often spent outside on his porch, soaking in the sunshine while enjoying his favorite pastime of playing "Scratchers." An avid lover of the beach, he delighted in fresh oysters, capturing the essence of life’s pleasures. With his handsome demeanor and signature pachuco hat, Alfonso was a striking presence, and once someone got to know him, he was impossible not to love.
In his final months at Haven Health, Alfonso became the heart and soul of the facility, quickly winning the affection of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His laugh, his stories, and his gentle wisdom left a lasting impression, and he will be sorely missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his loving sons, Alfonso (Al) Fajardo and his wife Leticia, Edgar Teran and his wife Sandra; his devoted daughter, Blanca Fajardo and his longtime son in-law, Ricardo Teyechea. Alfonso’s legacy continues through his cherished siblings, Guadalupe, Francisco, Jesus Fajardo and Josefina Gutierrez.
The love of a grandfather was a title he wore with pride, as he is survived by his cherished grandchildren: Yvette Favela and husband OJ, Amy Gomez, Monica Lerma and husband Gerardo, Alfonso Fajardo Jr. and wife Stephanie, Ricardo Teyechea Jr., Erica Soza, Bianca Teyechea, Edgar Teran Jr., Alan Teran, and Brianna Teran. His family also extends to his 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, alongside many adoring nieces and nephews who treasured him endlessly.
Preceded in death by his devoted wife of 66 years, Rita Fajardo, who was undoubtedly the love of his life, Alfonso now joins his siblings Manuel Fajardo, Vicente Fajardo, Dolores Andion and Carmela Fajardo. He is reunited with his loving parents, Vicente Fajardo Rosas and Francisca Moreno Molina, who laid the foundation of love that he passed on to his own family.
