Cota was born in Cananea, Sonora on November 27, 1945. At the age of 13, Alfredo moved to Arizona with his father in hopes of a bigger dream. Our grandfather Jose, Tia Melinda and Cota settled into Tucson finding home and employment. Once they were settled in with the necessities, my grandfather purchased their home and eventually the entire Cota family was moved from Cananea into their home located in The Historic District on 3rd Avenue. Alfredo Cota was a hard worker. Always knew hard work was the path to moving forward in life. Alfredo’s first place of employment was at Haskell Linens. Soon after, he found a job opportunity as a miner at the young age of 20. He started his mining career at The Pima/Cypress mines and eventually spent the majority of his mining years at Magma Copper until its’ closure. Cota worked for a short period with Arizona Pipeline and Northern Pipeline until his health sent him into retirement. Retirement was great and he took full advantage. He enjoyed spending his days at home watching sports, reading the paper, and sitting in his special chair on the porch while listening to music. What brought him the most joy was watching his grandchildren play sports, attending family parties, and watching Cardinals football. Alfredo was a season ticket holder for 26 years! Whether it was spending a Sunday with him at Cardinals stadium or at his house watching the game, it was what he loved, what he lived for and What we all grew to love because of him. Alfredo’s love for football was obvious to everyone. The only thing he loved more are his grandchildren and great grandchildren, it was everything to him. The love for his wife was profound. The last two weeks of his life was making sure his wife, Irene was going to be ok. “Take care of your mom.”

The disbelief of your absence is painful. The impact you had in our lives is profound. You were a matriarch of our family that always had an experience to share, a lesson to teach or were just someone to sit and talk with. You welcomed everyone into your home and always had the best conversations with people. We never could tell if they were old or new friends as you were kind to all. Our family was full of riches to have someone like you in our lives. We will forever miss you!
