Armida Flores Dorame peacefully went to be with the Lord in the home of her daughter on November 11th, 2018 in Tucson, AZ at the age of 88.
Armida is survived by her children, Raul Bess, Kathleen Lopez, Josephine "Jo" Maldonado, Alfred Maldonado, Eduardo "Eddie" Maldonado and Delia "Dee Dee" Polanco (Salvador); grandchildren, Lupe, Jessica, Michael, Carissa, Alfred "Trey", Kyle, Marcos, Raenay, Jack, and Diego; great-grandchildren, Eli and Alfredo "Freddie"; siblings, Rosa Jacinto (Joseph) and Rodolfo "Rudy" Flores (Penny); and many of her beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fidencio and Francisca Flores; her daughter Sandra "Chancha" Shambaugh; and her siblings, Robert Flores, Eduardo "Eddie" Gracia and Irma Cabarga.
Armida was born on September 10th, 1930 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. She moved with her family to Douglas, Arizona in 1940. After moving to Tucson, Armida began working for an orthopedic supply and drug store as a clerk. She also worked up until retirement as a janitor for the University of Arizona. Her family remembers her as a loving, selfless, strong matriarch who encouraged them to pursue their goals and care for others. She was known as a Tía and Nana to everyone, even not by blood relation.
Armida found entertainment in bingo games at church and any Eagles F.O.E post and often won. She was a generous individual who loved volunteering and who was passionate about philanthropy and amnesty. She was an active and dedicated member of the Catholic Church and raised all of her children to be Confirmed in the Church.
A Rosary and Mass are scheduled for 9:30 am on Saturday, November 24th at St. Margaret's 801 N Grande Ave, with a reception to follow. Father Richard will officiate the ceremony.
