Beatriz C Martinez

April 16, 1945 — October 29, 2022

Beatriz “Betty” C. Martinez was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Betty left this world on October 29, 2022, at age 77.

Betty was born to Cristobal and Hermelinda Caiz on April 16, 1945. Betty was a proud graduate of Pueblo High School. Following high school, Betty spent years abroad in Ilo, Peru where she had two sons: Frank and James Gallegos. Betty retired from years of service at Liberty Elementary School within the Sunnyside School District where she further connected with Tucson’s community through interaction with generations of students. Betty was a proud Tucsonan and enjoyed sparking the curiosity of her grandchildren through education and encouraging imagination and adventures, traveling near and far.

Betty loved spending time with loved ones and hosting gatherings of family and friends; weekend breakfasts and Thanksgiving dinners at Betty’s home were especially memorable and an experience of their own filled with delicious meals, music, and laughs. Betty encouraged summer continuing education for neighborhood children and friends of her sons and created a safe and nurturing environment for all invited into her home. Betty especially enjoyed dancing and listening to music.

Mass intentions for Betty’s passing will take place Friday, November 18, 2022, 10 am at Saint Monica Roman Catholic Parish. An interment of ashes service is scheduled for 11:30 am following the mass at Holy Hope Cemetery.
