Benavidez, affectionately known as Benny or Tivo, and together they raised five children in six years: Eddie (Marcia), Yvonne (Joe), Diane (Ronnie), Art (Lupita), and their late daughter, Mary Christina (Ray). Carmelita embraced her role as a mother and homemaker with devotion and joy, becoming known for her warmth, unwavering love for her family, and fantastic cooking. She was famous for her tacos, enchiladas, salsa, guacamole, chilacas, beans, and especially her homemade tortillas, all of which brought her family together around the table.

Carmelita was a woman of great spirit and character, with a love for life and a sharp sense of humor. She adored fashion, often dressing with style and flair, and had a deep passion for music, particularly the sounds of Pitbull, Juan Gabriel, Vicente Fernandez, Juan Aguilar, and loved dancing to salsa, cumbia, or boogie woogie. She also enjoyed watching novelas, bringing a bit of drama and entertainment into her daily routine.

In addition to her love for family and fun, Carmelita enjoyed attending church with her niece, Veronica Jimenez, and found peace and strength in her faith.
