Celina Barrios Alavez

January 7, 1938 — March 3, 2018

Celina B. Alavez, 80, went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2018.  She is survived by her son, Marco Antonio Alavez and wife, Myrna; granddaughters, Crystle Nicole Alonzo, husband Gabriel and Celina Andrade, husband Iran; brothers, Armando Barrios, Sr., Antonio Barrios and Enrique Barrios; as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Elvira Gallegos.  Celina enjoyed trying her luck at the Casinos and prior to that, she would play bingo and purchase scratch-offs.  Although she never won a large amount of money, if she would have "hit it big" it is without a doubt that she would have generously shared it with those she loved.  She was such a hard-worker and even in her years of retirement she was unable to stay still.  She was very energetic and was always looking for something to do. Prior to retiring she worked as a maid and also in the food service department for Nogales Unified School District. She lovingly raised her son as a single mother but always had the support of her family and close friends.  Celina baked delicious empanadas and Mexican Wedding cookies. She also would make tamales during holidays for friends and family. Celina was tiny in her physical form but had an enormous heart and soul!  She will remain in our hearts forever.
