David Stevens Wissert

May 4, 1938 — November 29, 2023

David Stevens Wissert, a remarkable individual known for his intelligence, faithfulness, and loving nature, has sadly passed away at the age of 85 in Rio Rico, Arizona. Born on May 4, 1938, in Somerville, New Jersey, David led a life filled with diverse experiences and meaningful connections.

After serving in the Army from 1958 to 1961 as a Specialist 4th Class, David embarked on a fulfilling career path. He began his professional journey with the Postal Service before transitioning into a managerial role in Quality Control. Later on, he ventured into Mexico and spent two decades working as an engineer for a factory. David's brilliance and commitment shone brightly throughout his work history.

Education played a significant role in David's life as well. He was fluent in three languages: English, Spanish, and French. His linguistic talents were a testament to his dedication to widening his horizons and embracing cultural diversity.

Beyond his professional achievements and educational pursuits, David was a man of many passions. He had an intense love for speed and mechanics; this passion manifested in his construction of three race cars. Not only did he build them meticulously from scratch but he also fearlessly rode and even competed with these powerful machines. Motorcycles also held a special place in his heart alongside guns—David possessed an eye for restoration and acquired an impressive collection of firearms.

Family was tremendously important to David throughout his life. For 41 years, he lovingly shared his life with Concepcion Wissert as her devoted spouse. Their marriage was characterized by unwavering love and attention. Additionally, David held deep affection for his children: son David Michael Wissert, daughters Susan Cowles and Maria Teresa Araujo. Though time constraints limited their moments together, the love he had for his children knew no bounds.

In the memories of those who knew him best, David will forever be cherished as a generous, compassionate soul. His love for his wife was unparalleled, and she never lacked his tender affection. The fun-loving and jovial nature he possessed made him a delight to be around. David's attentiveness toward those he cared about endeared him to many.

A series of services will be held to commemorate the remarkable life of David Stevens Wissert. The first event, a visitation, will take place at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Nogales, Arizona, on December 4, 2023. Starting at 5:00 PM and continuing until 9:00 PM, friends and loved ones will have an opportunity to pay their respects.

During the visitation, a Rosary will be recited at the same location on December 4, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

On December 5, Most Holy Nativity Catholic Church in Rio Rico, Arizona, will celebrate a Mass in honor of David's legacy. Beginning at 12:00 PM and concluding at 1:00 PM, this deeply meaningful service will be an opportunity for loved ones to come together in prayer.

Finally, the burial ceremony will occur at Nogales City Cemetery in Nogales, Arizona. Starting at 1:30 PM and concluding at 2:15 PM on December 5, this final farewell will provide closure and allow those closest to David to bid their heartfelt goodbyes.

David Stevens Wissert is survived by his beloved spouse Concepcion Wissert after sharing four decades of love and companionship. He leaves behind his son David M. Wissert along with his daughters Susan Cowles and Maria Teresa Araujo. Among those mourning his loss is also his sister Nancy Quelet along with his nieces and nephews. David's memory lives on through eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed to have experienced his presence in their lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav Wissert and Lillian Stevens Wissert.
