Marco "Dog" Lopez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away suddenly at his home in Rio Rico, AZ on February 9, 2024. Born on December 23, 1959, Nogales, AZ. Dog lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a strong sense of duty.
Dog's journey in life began as he joined his family's construction business after graduating from Nogales High School. However, his adventurous spirit led him to bravely dedicate himself to defending his country with the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany and spent a year in Korea and then ending his military career serving in Operation Desert Storm.
After his honorable discharge from the military, Dog found purpose and fulfillment in working with the United States Border Patrol for an impressive 24 years prior to his retirement. His dedication and commitment to protecting our borders earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Dog was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 10.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dog was known for his vibrant personality. A notorious jokester with an infectious sense of humor, he had an unparalleled ability to bring laughter into any room he entered. He cherished bantering with others and could always be relied upon to brighten people's days.
In his leisure time, Dog found solace in simple pleasures. Sitting on the porch of his home, he would watch cars go by while savoring a glass of scotch and enjoying a fine cigar. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved chopping wood, hunting, and fishing. Nature was where he felt most at peace.
Dog took immense pride in his family and cherished every moment spent with them. He was married to Hershey Lopez for 41 lovely years. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Dog leaves behind a legacy of love through their children: Jennifer Jaime (Henry) and Mark Parra.
As a doting grandfather to Christopher Jaime, Samantha Jaime, and Nicholas Jaime, Dog showered them with affection and taught them the values of family and laughter. Their laughter will forever echo through the memories they forged together.
Dog is survived by his mother, Dolores Lopez Santamaria; siblings: Jesus Lopez (Rosa), Hector Lopez, Ricardo Lopez (Lupita), Rigoberto Lopez (Fea), Eddie Lopez (Artie), Leticia Lopez, and Francisco Lopez (Marcela). Also close to his heart was his faithful dog, Oso. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Lopez; his son, Carlos "Chucky" Parra; and his sister, Lourdes Lopez. Additionally, Marco leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were all touched by his warmth and joy.
A visitation service to celebrate Dog's life will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Friends and family are invited to join together at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Nogales, AZ. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude at 2:00 PM with a Dedication Service at 12:00 PM. A Burial will follow at the Nogales City Cemetery.
Marco "Dog" Lopez touched the lives of many with his infectious sense of humor, unwavering dedication, and love for his family. He will forever be remembered as a remarkable individual who brought joy to those around him, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
