Elize Marie Monette was born on November 1, 1951, in Tucson, Arizona. She was the beloved daughter of Greg Escalante and Bertha Escalante. Elize was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Greg and Eddie Escalante and nephew, Frankie Escalante. She also had a close relationship with her surviving family members, including her only son, Michael A. Monette (Lina Vasquez); granddaughter, Alexandra Ruiz; nieces Stephanie Escalante, Vanessa Escalante, Andrea Escalante, Karen Stewart, Janet Harrison; nephews Eddie Escalante, Abel Escalante, Greg Escalante, Jr., Fernando Escalante and Patrick Hurts; brother in-law, Silas Hurts; and her, brother, Rene Escalante.
Elize dedicated her career to serving as a cook at the Chi Omega Sorority House at the University of Arizona for an impressive 20 years. Her passion for cooking brought joy and delicious meals to countless students during their time at the university. Elize's culinary skills were appreciated by all who had the pleasure of tasting her creations.
Outside of work, Elize had a vibrant personality that touched the lives of many. She was described as giving, humble, kind, forgiving, and always thinking of others first. Her sense of humor brightened every room she entered. Elize found pleasure in swimming and taking long walks to appreciate the beauty around her. She also had a knack for baking and gardening—activities that allowed her creativity to flourish.
In her leisure time, Elize enjoyed watching shows like "Sex in the City" as well as classic television programs. These moments of entertainment provided her with relaxation and enjoyment.
One of Elize's proudest accomplishments was successfully enrolling in cooking school at Pima Community College in the mid-80s. Despite feeling nervous initially, she persevered and finished top of her class—an achievement that showcased both her talent and dedication.
Elize's love for life extended beyond herself to those closest to her heart. She cherished every memory she shared with family and friends and generously provided moments of joy to everyone she encountered.
Tragically, Elize Marie Monette passed away on June 25, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona. Her loss is deeply felt by all who knew her. Elize's memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends, who will hold onto the love and laughter she brought into their lives.
Visitation services to honor and remember Elize will be held on July 19, 2023, at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson. The visitation will begin at 5:00 PM and conclude at 9:00 PM.
A Mass celebrating Elize's life will take place on July 20, 2023, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints in Tucson. The Mass will commence at 10:00 AM and end at 11:00 AM.
Following the Mass, Elize will be laid to rest at South Lawn Cemetery in Tucson. The burial service will begin at 11:30 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM.
Elize Marie Monette's absence leaves a void in the hearts of her loved ones, but her spirit and laughter will continue to resonate within them. She will be remembered as a remarkable woman whose kindness, selflessness, and humor touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she find eternal peace and happiness in heaven.
