Ernestina C. Coy, lovingly known by family and friends as a devoted wife, caring mother, adoring grandmother and loving sister, was born on July 25, 1931, in Austin, Texas. She left this world peacefully on March 20, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength.
Dedicating her life to her family, Ernestina was the heart and soul of her household, known for her tireless work ethic and nurturing spirit. She was a source of joy and happiness to all who knew her. With a personality that sparkled with humor, she had a rare gift for making those around her feel loved and valued. Many turned to her for comfort and prayers; her daily rosary was a testament to her faith and care for others. A sweetheart at heart, she wielded her strength with grace, showing both fierce love and, when necessary, formidable resolve.
She was a great dancer, sharing unforgettable moments with her husband, Lupe Coy, who preceded her in death. In addition to dancing, she found immense joy in gardening. Her pride in her plants and flowers reflected her nurturing nature, while her passion for cooking and baking filled the home with warmth and delicious aromas. She was faithful to her religion always ready to attend church.
Her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, who carry forward her legacy of love. Ernestina is survived by her loving children: Lupita Coy, Clara Coy, Alfonso Coy, Martin Coy (Veronica Romo), Reyes Coy-Nunez (Johnny Nunez), and Joe Cantu (Diana Cantu). Her grandchildren; Leticia, Casey, Christina, Marisa, Joey, Alfonso Jr., Cindy, Frankie, Sammy, Itze, Temo, Jax, Yesennia, Juan Jr., Lupe, Kassandra, Jessica, and Joey; great-grandchildren, including Kaylani, Cristian, Viviana, Julius, Aden, Michael, Ahdeyya, Raiden, Valentino, Rosalinda, Ethan, Ellie, Jayda, Davin, Ryker, Sammy, Makaio, Xochitleia, and Maddox, will forever cherish her memory and the love she bestowed upon them.
She is also survived by her siblings: Justo Cantu (Nancy), Hopie Cantu, and Katy Arredondo (Robert), Janie Hernandez and Pete Cantu along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness.
Ernestina C. Coy was preceded in death by, her parents, Jose Chemita Cantu and Maria Adame Cantu, and her siblings, Joe Cantu, Juventina Martinez, Olivia Balli and Frank Cantu.
A visitation will be held at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson on March 26, 2025, beginning at 5:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass celebrating Ernestina's life will take place the following day, March 27, 2025, at St. Margarets Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, with a graveside service to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery at 11:30 AM. A reception will follow at El Casino Ballroom.
In remembering Ernestina, we celebrate a life rich in love, laughter, and devotion. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us as we hold her memory dear in our hearts.
