Tucson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerard "Jerry" Fernando Martinez, who left us on October 13, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on July 30, 1959, in Tucson, Arizona, Jerry was a remarkable man whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Jerry's passions were as diverse as his talents. He dedicated his professional life to the worlds of finance, technology, and music. As a loan officer for Centex and a computer engineer for IBM, he brought his keen intellect and unwavering professionalism to each endeavor. However, it was his work as a sound engineer that truly showcased his extraordinary gift. Since the age of 18, Jerry lent his skills to many renowned artists, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

Education was essential to Jerry; he earned an associate's degree in computer science, which served as a foundation for his multiple careers. Yet, it was his day-to-day interactions that most vividly illustrate his character. Friends and family adored Jerry for his straightforwardness, his sense of humor, and his nurturing nature. He was a good listener who excelled at providing thoughtful advice, always embodying a spirit of care and support that made him a cornerstone in the lives of those around him. His spiritual side helped guide him and uplift those who sought guidance, allowing him to connect profoundly with others. Jerry was the 1971 Arizona poster child for March of Dimes. They were very instrumental in our lives. They funded all his surgeries. They're the reason he lived pass 20 years of age (expected life span of people with Spine Bifida).

Outside of work, Jerry cherished his hobbies. He found joy in collecting model cars, curating his music playlists, and savoring meals with his family. A true social butterfly, he loved capturing moments with photographs, always ready with his camera to seize the laughter and loving memories of the people he met. Thanksgiving and Christmas were especially significant to Jerry, as he would go all out to ensure celebrations were filled with warmth and joy. In his younger years, he proudly belonged to a sophisticated car club, fueling his passion for all things automotive.

Jerry’s true pride, however, lay in his role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Mark Anthony Martinez; daughters, Revina Lee Martinez and Karina Jeri Martinez; brother, Joey Martinez (Greg Hollman); sister, Alicia Leon (Gilbert Leon); and beloved grandchildren, Raymond Martinez, Jeremiah Martinez, and Kharizma Karen Lowden. The love they shared and the lessons he imparted will forever resonate in their hearts. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Alicia Martinez; brother, Ralph L. Martinez Jr.

Join us for a celebration of Jerry's life on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Chapels.

As we remember Jerry, we celebrate a life lived fully, with laughter, love, and an unwavering commitment to family. His legacy will endure through the stories told by those he cherished and the cherished moments they shared. Rest in peace, dear Jerry. You will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
