Gloria "Googie" Palacios, a beloved member of the Tucson community, passed away on January 17, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. She was born on August 26, 1942, in Tucson, and she remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life.
Googie will always be remembered for her love of family and her enthusiasm for the holiday season. One of her cherished traditions was preparing her famous cornbread every Thanksgiving, bringing joy to every family gathering. Her warmth and hospitality were evident as she welcomed relatives into her home and created lasting memories during these festive occasions.
Educated at Tucson High School, Googie was known for her intelligence and dedication to learning. She valued education and continuously sought knowledge throughout her life.
A woman of strong faith, Googie maintained a close relationship with God. Her spirituality shaped her character and guided her actions. She found solace and strength in prayer and faithfully attended religious services. Her devotion to her religious beliefs was an integral part of who she was.
In addition to being devoutly religious, Googie possessed a compassionate heart that led her to care for young children. Her proudest accomplishments were found in the nurturing of these little ones, ensuring their well-being and instilling in them the values she held dear.
Googie had a genuine passion for baking and decorating for Christmas. The kitchen was where she truly came alive, creating delicious treats that brought joy to those around her. With every batch baked with love, she added sweetness to the lives of those fortunate enough to enjoy her culinary creations.
Googie's passing leaves a void in the lives of many who loved and admired her deeply. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo and Socorro; as well as siblings Aurora N. Mares, Manuel Nunez, Elvia E. Palacios, and Edward C. Palacios.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Her loving presence will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
The funeral services for Googie Palacios will be held on January 25, 2024. The first event, a Viewing, will take place from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Tucson. Following the Viewing, a Prayer Service will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the same location.
A Mass to honor Googie's life and legacy will then be held at Santa Cruz Catholic Church on S 6th Ave in Tucson from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Finally, a Graveside Service will be conducted at Holy Hope Cemetery on N Oracle Rd in Tucson at 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.
During this time of mourning, let us remember Googie for the person she was – a loving and devoted sister, aunt, and friend. May her memory live on as we carry forward her values of faith, love, and compassion in our own lives.
