John L. Herman Jr. left us too early due to Covid-19. He was cared for by the wonderful and caring staff at Tucson Medical Center where he passed on August 6th. This terrible disease did not allow for family members to be by his side, but the Lord took him home so he was not alone. His passing left his wife, sons, sisters, and extended family to mourn the loss of someone so dedicated to God, his family, his work, and his country.
John was the youngest child and only son of Evelyn (Jupe) Herman and John L. Herman Sr. Born in San Antonio, Texas in 1953, he graduated High School from East Central in 1971. He also graduated from the University of Houston in 1976 and became a successful CPA in Nogales, Arizona where he owned the John L Herman Jr, CPA office.
He was blessed to have a loving marriage with the love of his life, Janette (Velasquez) Herman which he celebrated their 40th anniversary on June 28th. Together they raised four sons, Rudy, John III, Jeffrey, and Phillip.
He is preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and John Sr., his Mother- and Father-in-law Phillip and Fela Velasquez, Brother-in-law Joseph Velasquez, and Sister-in-law Terry Fortuno.
He is survived by his wife, Janette (Velazquez) Herman, sons, Rudy Sanchez (Elizabeth), John L Herman III (Violet), Jeffrey Herman, and Phillip Herman (Amanda Boatman). Sisters, Donna Jackson (Dub), Patricia McDonald (Larry), and Peggy Herman (Vince Conway). His in-laws Salvador Velasquez (Sylvia), Mary Lou Lowe (Ernest), Angie Tillery, Patty Thomas (Chuck), Carmelita Velasquez, and Joe Fortuno, eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and his Godmother Corine Jupe Brehm.
Johnny grew up with many same-aged cousins and together they found humor and music (Beatles were his love) at the numerous family gatherings. He was a wonderful uncle, father, and grandfather because he absolutely bonded with children, teaching games, story-telling, and listening. He and Janette often visited their sons and families and tried to squeeze in a baseball game in St. Louis or Chicago, or the beach in California. He was a life-long fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and San Antonio Spurs as he enthusiastically loved to watch and attend games with his family. The trip he and his sons had planned to hike the Grand Canyon will be a memorial now instead.
