Johnny Hernandez, 74, returned home to his Heavenly home on June 30, 2018. Born on December 2, 1943 in El Paso, Texas to Lucinda Maria Ortiz, who along with her husband, Rocky Ortiz, raised Johnny to be the hardworking and respectful gentleman he was. Johnny was blessed with a large and loving family who will always cherish the beautiful memories they created together. Survived by his beloved bride of 53 years, Hope Hernandez; his eldest son, who he always relied on to help him with the many projects he did around the house, Johnny S. Hernandez (Mina); his son and Rusty's drinking buddy, David S. Hernandez (Lisa) and his third son with who he shared breakfast with every Sunday, Robert S. Hernandez; his youngest child and daddy's little girl, Lucinda P. Fragoso (Rick); "Tata Grouch" to 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Manuel Hernandez. For 20 years, Johnny unselfishly dedicated his time to coaching the Western Little League teams and won many championships. He coached all three sons into becoming great ball players. After the games he would hang out with his friends in what became known as the "Coach's Corner." Proudly serving in the National Guard and a retiree from the University of Arizona, Johnny never could stop working. He devoted many hours to the Casino Ball Room and was his family's "handyman" helping them with painting, laying tile and many other remodeling jobs. True to his birthplace, he enjoyed listening to Tejano music as well as the Oldies but Goodies. He had a quiet strength and always sacrificed his needs for the good of his family. Although he will be greatly missed, there is comfort knowing he is once again free.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
