Jose "Joe" Solares, a beloved resident of Tubac, Arizona, passed away on January 19, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on September 12, 1936, in Tubac, Joe lived his entire life in the he cherished deeply. His passing leaves a void felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Throughout his career, Joe wore many hats, taking on roles as a truck driver, school bus driver, maintenance worker, heavy equipment operator, carpenter, and mason. His versatility in the workforce exemplified his strong work ethic and dedication to service. Joe was not just an employee; he was a pillar of support in his community, often volunteering his time and energy to assist with local events and those in need.
Joe was a passionate baseball enthusiast and devoted much of his time to coaching little league and youth baseball. His love for the sport was infectious, and he shared that passion with countless young players, instilling values of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Those who knew Joe remember him as a social butterfly, always engaged in conversation, cracking jokes, and sharing stories. His remarkable memory made him the local historian of Tubac, and he delighted in recounting the rich history of his hometown. Joe was loved by all who crossed his path, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and camaraderie.
One of Joe's greatest joys was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband to Helen Solares, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Joe was a proud father to Mary Ellen and Greg Solares and Jose Solares Jr., and he took immense joy in being a grandfather to Mayra, David, and Omar Solares, as well as a great-grandfather to Brianna Enriquez. His grandchildren were the sparkle in his eyes, and he made it a priority to attend all their events and activities, sister, Irene S. Montoya.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manual and Maria Solares; daughter, Esther Solares; brothers, Jesus Alvarez, Manuel Solares and Pete Solares; sisters, Mercedes Figueroa, Carmen Lopez, Rosa Ybarra and Ofelia Teso.
Joe Solares will be remembered for his vibrant personality, his unwavering love for friends and family, and his tireless commitment to making his community a better place. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
