Julian Z. Saucedo, a hardworking, resilient man, passed away on November 23rd, 2023, in Tucson, Arizona. He was born on January 28th, 1939 in Jalisco, Mexico. He later immigrated to the United States where he married and raised his family. He prided himself on being a loving, honest and hardworking man.
In his small hometown, Ajijic, he learned to love botas, los toros and the fiestas. He enjoyed watching bull riders and dancing in the plaza. Beyond his love for his hometown was his love for God. He attended mass every Sunday and was a devout catholic. Several times in his life he faced immense hardship. Each time he prayed, and thanked God for being able to survive and flourish despite all his challenges.
He immigrated to the United States and met his wife, Maria, in 1967. They married in 1968. Maria and Julian raised nine beautiful children together. They spent their life together laughing, cooking, and going to the Casino. On any given week you could find Julian and Maria making pozole, menudo or tacos de cabeza. Julian loved hot sauce and growing chitepins. His favorite time of year was when the lemons, grapes, and figs he grew in his backyard became ripe.
Julian instilled in his children and grandchildren a great work ethic. He worked at the San Manuel Copper Mines for over 20 years. He received many accolades for his hard work and never missed a day. He retired in 1992.
Julian was a beloved community member of Barrio Nopal. His neighbors loved to see him and wave as he passed their homes on his daily walks. He was a strong man who loved being outside and being around others. When he was not at work, he spent his time making jokes and being with his family. He loved to be around his culture and teach his grandchildren about his hometown. Julian always looked forward to going to the Tucson rodeo and loved taking his grandchildren to the rodeo parade. He also looked forward to the holiday season. He loved it because he enjoyed being with his family, decorating and honoring his patron saint La Virgen de Guadalupe.
After retiring from the mines, he became an avid gardener. He planted roses, trees, aloe and so much more. He had a brilliant green thumb. He made his life as beautiful as his backyard.
He is survived by his sons; Henry (Robyn), Frank (Hope) and Hugo. His daughters; Mary Anthony (Marcos) Lisa, and Julissa (Armando). His bonus daughters Delma (Vidal) and Dorinda whom he affectionately called La Rubia. His 26 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Also, countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Ramon Saucedo and Antonia Zambrano, his wife, Maria Saucedo, and his sons; Jaime, Sergio and Abel Saucedo.
Julian will be greatly missed by all, Te quiero mucho mucho mucho mucho Tata- Tus Princesas Isabella “Boo” y Kassandra
Julian’s daughter would love to thank her cousins Carmen, Pati, and her sisters from another mister Delma and Rinda for never leaving her side and showing her unconditional love as she was losing her “deddy”. His family gives great thanks to Dr. Wang, and all the Banner hospital staff for taking such great care of him. As well as the staff at Peppi’s house, with special thanks to Thane, Rebeka and Kim, for easing them in Julians transition into eternal peace.
Daddy, mi corazón esta roto, como te voy extrañar. Siempre mi héroe, te quiero mucho Daddy- Tu Reyna, Julissa
