Lawrence Edward Phillips, age 73 passed Away early Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2019, at the Arizona State Veterans Home in Tucson, AZ. Born in Toledo, OH, on August 13, 1945, he was the son of the late Leo and Stella (Cox) Phillips. He attended schools in Johnson City, TN and Chicago, IL. In 1965 he was married to Linda (Crouch) Phillips who survives him. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict (1966), and later in a civilian capacity, in Desert Storm (1991). He served a total of thirty-two years (1966-1998) combined between Active Duty, Army Reserves and Civil Service. As an electronics enthusiast, he learned to repair televisions and radios in his step-father's (Alex Holder), repair shop. In 1958, at twelve years old he achieved his Novice class Ham Radio license. And that became a lifelong passion for him. His latest Ham Radio station call sign is 'K9LP.' Lawrence leaves behind two sons, Lawrence Phillips Jr. of Augusta, GA and Brian Phillips of Vail, AZ. Also surviving is his granddaughter Indira Phillips of Tucson, AZ. A Burial Service will be held Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Monte Vista Funeral Home in Johnson City, TN. Pastor Chad Williams will officiate.
