Leo S. Perez

Leo S. Perez, born on October 18, 1944, in Tucson, Arizona, departed this life on April 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy full of love, commitment, and resilience. His journey began in the warmth of the Sonoran desert, where he would go on to make an indelible mark not only as a devoted family man but also as a valued member of his community.

Leo's career started as an underground miner at the San Manuel Mine, a position that showcased his dedication and strong work ethic. After retiring from mining, he transitioned to plumbing, a trade where he applied his hands-on skills and problem-solving abilities. He was deeply revered by his colleagues for his expertise and reliability.

A proud veteran, Leo enlisted in the National Guard before serving two years in the Army, embodying the spirit of duty and service. His military experience shaped him into the strong leader that his family and friends cherished.

Educated at Amphi High School, Leo appreciated the value of hard work and education. Perhaps his most notable achievement was purchasing a home and nurturing a loving environment for his children, instilling in them the values that he held dear.

Leo was not only a wonderful husband but also a devoted father and grandfather, known for his strict yet loving demeanor. His family reflects on him with immense fondness, remembering the good advice he dispensed freely, shaping them into the individuals they are today. He was the life of any gathering, often referred to as the "clown of the parties," ensuring laughter filled the rooms he occupied.

He loved to maintain the beauty of his home and yard, spending countless hours ensuring his surroundings were a reflection of his care and pride.

Leo's family includes his beloved sons, James A. Koller and Leo S. Perez III, and his cherished daughters, Justine Perez (Louie), Armida Martinez (Julio), Eva Perez, and Nadine Sanchez. He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandfather who brought joy to 31 great-grandchildren. Leo is also survived by his brothers, Tom Perez and Anthony Perez, and his sister, Dina Perez.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Virginia Perez, son, Martin A. Villa, sisters, Sylvia DeMontigny and Virginia Gonzalez.

Leo S. Perez will be remembered as a remarkable man whose life was dedicated to providing for his family and spreading joy to those around him. His spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
