Manny “Gorgie” Contreras was a loving husband, humorous brother, cherished father, and exceptional grandfather. He passed away in the presence of loved ones on December 23rd at Banner University Medical Center at the age of 68. He was born as the only boy among 5 sisters on October 11, 1956, in Nogales, Arizona.
He was taken far too soon. He fought health issues for several years and he continued to fight until the day that he passed. He is now free of the pain that he endured and has been welcomed into heaven with open arms.
Manny lived a life that embodied hard work and dedication. He worked at numerous golf courses in Southern Arizona over the course of 46 plus years and retired as the Assistant Superintendent of the Tubac Golf Resort in 2021. Alongside his father, Manuel Sr., they built his home, which has been a sanctuary for all his family, even to this day.
Above anything else, he deeply cherished his family. He made every effort to show them continuous and unconditional love. Whenever he was with his grandkids, they were always smiling and laughing. He involved them in just about everything, such as fishing and cooking and spoiling them in every way he could. His love was radiant and one-of-a-kind. An amazing cook, he loved preparing meals, especially when it came to holidays and weekly brunch. The meals he served were an extension of his love for his family. No one will forget his salsa.
He always made an effort to support his grandchildren, whether it be attending their sporting events, dance recitals, or graduations, even when it became difficult for him to do so. He pushed through every obstacle to be there for his family and to support their aspirations.
Manny is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of nearly 48 years, his 2 children, Guillermo and Christina, their spouses and 5 grandchildren: Estrella, Javier, Mikaela, Juliana and Mila. His legacy and endless love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives. He is deeply missed by all of those who loved him and will be remembered as always laughing, joking and having a huge smile on his face.
