El 21 de junio de 2024, el mundo lamentó el fallecimiento de un alma verdaderamente extraordinaria cuando Manuela "Nellie" M. Morales exhaló su último aliento en Tucson, Arizona. Manuela no era sólo un nombre; ella fue un faro de amor, resiliencia y dedicación inquebrantable que tocó las vidas de todos los que tuvieron la suerte de conocerla.

Nacida el 29 de julio de 1929 en Divisadero, Sonora México, el viaje de Manuela por esta tierra fue un testimonio de fortaleza y bondad. Comenzó su carrera como cocinera en varios restaurantes y luego encontró su vocación en el cuidado de niños y adultos, encarnando una compasión ilimitada y un espíritu cariñoso que no conocía límites. Su familia ocupaba un lugar especial en su corazón y ella los apoyó desinteresadamente y sin dudarlo.

Los más cercanos a Manuela siempre atesorarán el recuerdo de su vibrante personalidad. Era un torbellino de energía, siempre bullendo con un sentido de propósito y entusiasmo por la vida. Su naturaleza meticulosa y su corazón solidario brillaron en cada conversación y cada acción, dejando una huella indeleble en quienes la rodeaban.

Como orgullosa inmigrante de México, la incomparable ética de trabajo de Manuela allanó el camino para su éxito y el de sus seres queridos. Ya sea que estuviera cuidando sus queridas plantas al amanecer o disfrutando de su pasatiempo favorito de ver novelas y noticias, encontraba alegría en los momentos simples de la vida compartidos en familia.

En los corazones que sufren por su partida pero que también se regocijan al celebrar su legado están los familiares y amigos sobrevivientes de Manuela. Le sobreviven sus hijos, José Luis Sánchez Mendívil y Ramona Sánchez Mendívil; las hermanas Antonia Mendivil y Guadalupe Mendivil; nietos; bisnietos; tataranietos; y no nos olvidemos de Valin, su fiel compañero canino. 

Le precedieron en la muerte su esposo, Apolino Morales y su ex-esposo, Luis Sánchez Álvarez; sus hijos, Roberto Sánchez Mendivil, Fernando Moreno Mendivil y Norma Cecilia Morales, su bisnieto, Juan Gerardo, sus padres, Ramon Mendivil and Catalina Amaya y sus hermanos, Ramon, Rafael, Florencio, Catalina y Juanita. 

Aunque lamentamos la ausencia física de Manuela con gran pesar, encontramos consuelo al saber que los recuerdos de su calidez y amor quedarán grabados para siempre en nosotros. Unámonos para honrar la extraordinaria vida llevada por Manuela con una visita el lunes 1 de julio de 2024 a partir de las 5:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. con un Rosario a las 19:00 horas. en Martinez Funeral Chapels, 2580 S. 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ. La misa será el martes 2 de julio de 2024 en la Iglesia Católica de Santa Cruz, 1220 S. 6th Avenue de 10:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m., seguida del entierro en el Mausoleo de Holy Hope, 3555 N Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ. 

Que la luz que Nellie trajo a nuestras vidas continúe brillando mientras nos despedimos de un alma extraordinaria que siempre será apreciada en nuestros corazones.


On June 21, 2024, the world mourned the passing of a truly extraordinary soul as Manuela "Nellie" M. Morales breathed her last breath in Tucson, Arizona. Manuela was not just a name; she was a beacon of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication that touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Born on July 29, 1929, in Divisadero, Sonora Mexico, Manuela's journey on this earth was a testament to strength and kindness. Starting her career as a cook for various restaurants, she later found her calling in caring for both children and adults, embodying boundless compassion and a nurturing spirit that knew no bounds. Her family held a special place in her heart, and she selflessly supported them without hesitation.

Those closest to Manuela will always treasure the memories of her vibrant personality. She was a whirlwind of energy, always bustling around with a sense of purpose and zest for life. Her meticulous nature and caring heart shone through in every conversation and every action, leaving an indelible mark on those around her.

As a proud immigrant from Mexico, Manuela's unparalleled work ethic paved the way for her success and that of her loved ones. Whether she was tending to her beloved plants at dawn or enjoying her favorite pastime of watching novelas and the news, she found joy in life's simple moments shared with family.

In the hearts that ache at her departure but also rejoice in celebrating her legacy are Manuela's surviving family and friends. She is survived by her children, Jose Luis Sanchez Mendivil and Ramona Sanchez Mendivil; sisters Antonia Mendivil and Guadalupe Mendivil; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and let's not forget Valin, her faithful canine companion. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Apolo and ex-husband, Luis Sanchez Alvarez; her children, Roberto Sanchez Mendivil, Fernando Moreno Mendivil and Norma Cecilia Morales and great-grandson, Juan Gerardo, her parents, Ramon Mendivil and Catalina Amaya and her siblings, Ramon, Rafael, Florencio, Catalina and Juanita. 

Although we mourn Manuela's physical absence with heavy hearts, we find comfort in knowing that memories of her warmth and love will forever be engraved within us. Let us come together to honor the remarkable life led by Manuela with a visitation on, Monday, July 1 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Martinez Funeral Chapels, 2580 S. 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ. Mass will be on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, 1220 S. 6th Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by entombment at Holy Hope Mausoleum, 3555 N Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ. 

May the light that Nellie brought into our lives continue to shine brightly as we bid farewell to a remarkable soul who will forever be cherished in our hearts.
