Nogales, Arizona - Maria Esperanza Martinez, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023, in Green Valley. She leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.

Born on October 17, 1946, in Ejido La Arizona, Sonora, Mexico, Maria was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Santamaria. From an early age, it was evident that Maria possessed a unique spirit and a deep well of compassion. She carried these qualities with her throughout her life and touched the lives of countless individuals along her journey.

Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Heriberto Martinez Sr.. Her son Manuel "Lito" Martinez  She also joins her sister Ramona Gastelum and half-brother Luis Santamaria in eternal rest. Though their physical presence may be gone, their spirits continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Left to cherish her memory are Maria's children: Heriberto Martinez, Norberto Martinez, Carmen Anita Amezcua, Diana Martinez, Alina Martinez; along with her brothers Jose Luis Santamaria, Abelardo Santamaria, Nolberto Santamaria, Manuel Santamaria; sisters Dolores Lopez and Consuelo Carrizosa; half-brother Florentino Santamaria and half-sister Teresa Santamaria. Maria's grandchildren: Erica, Marina, Heriberto Jr., Leslie, Yeshua, Noah, Saul, Erik, Jesús, Ashley, Dario, Daniela, Juan Carlos and Enrique Maria's great-grandchildren; Carlitos and Isac will forever hold their abuela's love close to their hearts.

Maria cherished each moment spent with her family and friends. Her warmth and love knew no bounds as she showered them with affection and guidance. She exuded grace and wisdom, offering comfort and solace to those in need. Maria's home was a sanctuary for all who sought solace, where the door was always open, and a warm cup of coffee awaited anyone who crossed her threshold.

Throughout her life, Maria found solace in her faith. A devoted parishioner of San Felipe de Jesus Parish in Nogales, she found strength in prayer and shared that strength with others. Her unwavering faith was an inspiration to all those around her.

In honor of Maria's life, visitation will be held on August 18, 2023, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at Martinez Funeral Chapels - Nogales located at 891 W Mariposa Rd, Nogales, AZ 85621. A prayer service will follow at 12:00 pm at the same location. Later in the day, a Mass will be held at 2:00 pm at San Felipe de Jesus Parish situated at 1901 N Jose Gallego Dr, Nogales, AZ 85621. The burial ceremony will take place at Nogales City Cemetery on W Western Ave following the Mass.

Maria Esperanza Martinez will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, kindness, and selflessness. She touched our lives in profound ways and taught us the true meaning of family and friendship. Although we mourn her passing, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the everlasting impact she had on each one of us.
