On March 15, 2020 Maria Guadalupe Reyes “Lupita" passed away peacefully while holding her husband Benjamin’s hand. She was 59 years old when she left us. Born in Nogales, Arizona to Roberto and Lydia (Fajardo) Valenzuela on June 9th, 1960. She was a beautiful soul full of life and love. Our very own “Dancing Queen” she loved music from all walks of life. She shared everything she loved with those she loved unselfishly. She loved fiercely and was always there to give advice or a hug. The crafty and creative Tia; you always knew you would have a great time when you were with her. She loved family gatherings especially the ones that involved Halloween and Christmas. The joker in her thrived at Halloween as she called her sisters to say Happy Birthday Witchy Poos. Christmas brought out something so special in her and her husband Ben. If you ever went to their house at Christmas time you were sure to encounter what was lovingly referred to as Christmas Vomit.
She spent several years in Van Nuys, California where she met the love of her life and also where she also fell in love with the Ocean. She joined the Reyes clan when she married Benjamin Reyes on February 26th, 1982. Her heart though always remained in Nogales with her family. La Diablita returned to Nogalitos with her husband, daughter and son to watch over her parents. She was so proud of her time with Mothers Against Gangs and The Boys and Girls Club helping the kids of Nogales. Lupita loved her family above everything. Every generation of the Valenzuela's was touched by her light and is forever changed by her loss.
Her most cherished role was that of Mom and Grandma. She was the kind of mom that everyone wanted to have the ultimate Momma Bear. All of her children's friends were family, also calling her mom. She was her kids best friend and a lioness who watched over and raised her cubs. There are so many memories that will forever be etched in our minds. The brightest lights in her life however were her grand babies who always knew Nana was wrapped around their little fingers. Izaiah and Vinnie both had the greatest nana in the world. In her presence they lit up and learned how to do “La Manita”.
Lupita is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Benjamin Reyes. Her loving sons, Benjamin Reyes, Jr. and Alexander David Reyes. Her adoring daughters, Marrissa Leeann Reyes (Micah Shaw) and Zarina Salazar (Frankie). Her loving siblings, Angelita Ibarra, Jesus Manuel Valenzuela, Norma Valenzuela and Jorge Martin Valenzuela; and two cherished grandchildren, Izaiah Reyes and Vinnie Jeremiah Salazar as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
