Miguel "Mike" A. De La Rosa

November 2, 1939 — October 10, 2024

Tucson, AZ

Miguel "Mike" A. De La Rosa, a cherished pillar of the Tucson community, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024 at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 2, 1939, in Tucson, Arizona, Miguel exemplified resilience and dedication from a young age. He was the oldest of his brothers and, following the untimely loss of his father, he took on the responsibility of supporting his family, leaving school early to help make ends meet.

Miguel's legacy is etched not only in the hearts of those who knew him but also in the tangible beauty of his craftsmanship. Renowned as an outstanding bricklayer, some of his most remarkable work can be seen around the town, including the graceful fountain in front of the federal building on Congress and the striking large arch in front of the Bank of America on La Cholla and Ina. His creations speak volumes of his talent and passion for his craft.

A devoted husband to his beloved wife Herminia De La Rosa for 67 wonderful years, Miguel was the embodiment of a loving father and caring grandfather. He took immense pride in his family, often sharing stories of the joy his children and grandchildren brought into his life. This joy extended through generations, as he cherished 18 great-grandchildren, each adding their unique color to the vibrant tapestry of his life. His children, Norma Cordova (Armando), Ana Heredia (Eddie), Leonardo De La Rosa (Lupita), Ruben De La Rosa (Sirintip "Fern"), Herminia Reyes (Jesse) and Marisela Moreno Bedoya, held a special place in his heart, as did his grandchildren Sonia, Armando, Marlinda, Celina, Roman, Michael, Steven, Jaime, Eric, Edward, Laura, Seferino, Alejandro, Gabriel, Adam, and Jessica. These familial bonds were a source of immense pride and joy for Miguel.

Known for his happy-go-lucky spirit, Miguel was a fantastic role model whose hardworking nature made him a good provider for his family. He filled their lives with love, laughter, and invaluable lessons. His passions went beyond his professional endeavors; he found joy in drawing, painting, arts and crafts, and caring for his chiltepin plants in his cherished garden.

Miguel's absence will be profoundly felt by many, especially by his siblings, Betty, Cecilia, Frances, Gloria, Lupita, Susie, Margie, Henry, Gustavo, and Jorge. He was preceded in death by his son, Miguel De La Rosa, his granddaughter, Angelita Cordova, and his brothers, Seferino and Danny De La Rosa. Their memories remain a treasured part of his life story.
