With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Norma Irene Fontes on December 29, 2024, at the age of 62. Born on November 5th 1962, Norma was a native Tucsonan and graduate of Salpointe High School. She began her Federal career working at the Southern Arizona Veterans Hospital before moving onto the United States Postal Service where she spent over 35 years as a Carrier before retiring. There, is where she met her best friends Mary and Tina, several amazing people who would become her life long friends, her traveling buddies and her retirement lunch crew.
Norma was a devoted family woman, beloved mother to her daughter Selina and son-in-law Carlos, grandmother to Anisa, Chana and Carlos Jr. and great-grandmother to Luciana Irene. She was the second to youngest of five siblings (Gabriel, Luz, Yolanda, Daniel- deceased). She is preceded in death by her mother Carmen, brother Daniel, her daughters Mercedes and Cruz, grandmothers Refugio and Cuquita, other beloved family members who are resting in eternal peace and her beloved partner Richard, in which our family finds solace in the thought of their joyous reunion and cherishes the countless memories they created together.
Norma was cherished by her family and quickly grew into its unwavering rock. Her heart of gold and radiant spirit made her a beacon of love and comfort to her family and friends, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Norma’s humor was unmatched - her quick wit and infectious laugh brought joy to all who shared her company. She was the person you could turn to in need, non-judgmental and accepting of everyone. She was undeniably pure hearted and always willing to be helpful. She had a boundless love for wildlife and a curiosity about the world that inspired her adventurous spirit. Her childlike wonder made her a breath of fresh air, infusing every moment with a sense of magic and possibility. Whether she was traveling, exploring nature or simply sharing stories with loved ones, talking about what time the sun was setting that day or about a Ghost Adventure show, Norma’s zest for life shone brightly. Norma’s laughter, smile, boundless love and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind. The family invites those who loved Norma to celebrate her extraordinary life and honor her memory in a way that reflects her radiant and fun -loving spirit to bring a magnet in lieu of flowers to finish her refrigerator magnetic collection she started from traveling or receiving from family and friends throughout the years. Norma Irene Fontes will forever remain in our hearts as a reminder to live with kindness, curiosity, and joy. She was, and will always be, deeply loved and missed. Remember her smile and laughter and be at peace.
