Ofelia “Ofie” Quijada Olivas of Sahuarita, AZ, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on December 1, 2023. She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years Hector S. Olivas, her daughters Sandra (Ray) Meranza, Amanda (John) Murray, and her grandchildren Alesandra, Ray Jr., and Karina. Her siblings Elvira (Fred) Moraga, Frank (Barbara) Quijada, Mercy (Steve) Ronquillo, Janie (Rick) Sanchez, Roque (Roberta) Quijada, and George Quijada Sr. As well as an extensive family and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Mercedes Quijada, and her sister Sylvia Bracamonte.
Ofelia was born on February 28, 1947, in Tiger, Arizona. She grew up in Mammoth and was a 1965 graduate of San Manuel High School and attended the University of Arizona and Durham Business College. She was employed by The State of Arizona for 31 years and retired in 2001. Ofelia was an outstanding athlete in high school. She continued playing softball until she was 61 years old and participated in the Senior Olympic World Games in Winnipeg Canada. She also participated in many National Bowling Tournaments throughout the United States. Ofelia also served on the United States Commission on Civil Rights and the Sahuarita Unified School District Board. One of the things she will be most remembered for will be her LOVE for her Arizona Wildcats. Win or lose she always remained a loyal fan.
