To the cherished community of Nogales Sonora and beyond, we gather here to honor the memory of a remarkable soul, Ofelia Guadalupe Sanchez Contreras. Ofelia's journey began on January 14, 1938, in Nogales Sonora, where she graced the world with her presence until her peaceful passing in Tucson Arizona on March 29, 2024.
Ofelia was a beacon of light to all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love and generosity that will forever illuminate our lives. She was known for her culinary prowess and how she delighted in preparing Thanksgiving stuffing, Easter capirotada, and her famous tortillas. Her passion for cooking extended beyond the kitchen as she found joy in feeding her beloved family with meals made from the heart.
Her vibrant personality shone through in every interaction - a gift of hospitality, possessing a golden heart that radiated selflessness and determination. Ofelia's unwavering strength, paired with her infectious laughter and great sense of humor, endeared her to all fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
Among those who will carry Ofelia's memory forward are her loving surviving family members: sons Jesus F Sanchez, Jose Sanchez (Angelica), Alejandro Sanchez (Mary), Martin Sanchez (Syria), Roberto Sanchez; daughters Martha Sanchez and Betty Sanchez; brothers Leobardo Contreras, Francisco J Contreras, J Jesus Contreras; along with a multitude of cherished grandchildren Dominic, Abraham, Nicole, Janette, Noah, Joseph, Daniel, Alejandro, Alyssa, Tania, Ashley, Andrew, Alessandra, Sarai, Joshua, Monique, Annalise, Matthew, Danitza, Dayanara, Roberto, Fernando and great-grandchildren Emma, Elijah, Joselyn, Caleb, Chloe, Kaiyah, Ezekiel, Jaydon, Zaidah, A.J, Julietta who meant the world to her.
A schedule of services has been arranged to commemorate Ofelia's life - visitation at Martinez Funeral Chapels in Nogales on April 10th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM. A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 11th at 1:30 PM with burial services to follow at Nogales City Cemetery.
As we reflect on the beautiful life Ofelia lived, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created and the hearts she touched. May we take solace in the knowledge that heaven has gained an angel whose love will forever remain etched in our souls.
