Pedro A. Contreras

September 1, 1975 — July 8, 2020

On the evening of July 8, 2020, Pedro Contreras passed away; he was born September 1, 1975. During the year of 1979, his mother, Sandra Contreras was in pursuit of a better life for Pedro, his brother Luis and herself, so she decided to move to Tucson, AZ. A few years later, Pedro found an addition to his family, a baby sister! (Ivanna Duran). He would remain living in Tucson.

Pedro was a good kid with a special talent for art. Seen as a gift from God, Pedro had the ability to express his internal feelings and emotions, and was able to transmit this to his external world. Such abilities would capture the hearts of many. Pedro mastered the art of drawing and quickly evolved in the world of art. He was able to expand his skills and do murals, tattoo's and engravings. He went on to college to become a welder, where once again, his passion for art would be shown through his metal sculpting skills. Pedro also become a father of two beautiful girls, Cecilia Contreras and Angel Contreras. To hear him speak of his love for these two girls was a true inspiration for myself to be a good father. He was made a grandfather by his older daughter, Cecilia.  As time went by, Pedro Contreras went on to be a a loving father, loving brother, great cousin, good nephew, grandfather, friend to many, and an inspiration to many more.

Pedro loved cross country and track. I remember jogging together and he would express the freedom he felt from being able to just run. He understood that cross country involved more than the ability to run fast. To succeed in cross country, it required energy, endurance and the ability to last for long periods of time. He loved the fact that it was a sport that involved confronting the elements-from rain to mud, sunshine and fog. As well as up hill struggles and being able to control your pace as you went down hill. I believe this was his way of living his long race that we call life. He pushed forward no matter what the condition.

He tried to keep his balance in every step of life, when he happened to fall he would get up, shake it off, and keep advancing. Pedro passed these morals and core values to his brother and sister. He taught them to strive in life by having, desire, dedication, determination and discipline. Most of all, he shared a loving, contagious smile with the world. One could only smile back. Playful, cheerful and loving, would best describe Pedro.  Let's not forget his 'bug sound' behind peoples ears. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten because he has impacted the lives of many in such a positive way. My dear brother, I love you and thank God for having the special privilege of being your brother and you being my father, brother, friend, and special shoulder to lean on while growing up. You will be missed until the day we meet again.  Forever in our hearts you will be.

Pedro is survived by his mother and siblings: Sandra and Luis Contreras and Ivann Villanueva; daughters, Cecilia Contreras and Angel Contreras; cousins, Karla, Lora, Judith Andrade,Rocio Duran, Ramon and Myrna Tapia, Carlos, Daniel and Monica Moreno; aunts and uncles, Carmen and Ramon Tapia and Alejandrina and Carlos Moreno.
