Ramón Yocupicio, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023. Son of Carmelita and Gilberto (Don Beto) Yocupicio, Ramón was born in Navojoa, Sonora, on September 15, 1947.
Since his childhood, Ramón's passion for music was evident. In his late-teen years, he pursued his love for music, which led him to participate in renowned groups such as Los Shakedowns and Los Apson. His music, including national hits, original songs, and covers, can be found on YouTube.
Ramón, who was diagnosed with fatal cirrhosis in middle age, was miraculously healed. From then on, he dedicated his life to serving the Lord through missionary work and music. For over 30 years, he and his wife, Gabriela, played the Sunday mass at 9 am at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Nogales, AZ.
Ramón loved singing and playing music with his friends and family. One of his passions was composing music. He wrote songs for the Virgin, songs of protest, and songs of love and heartbreak. His favorite hobby was long-distance running; in his adolescence, he was a state champion in Sonora in this sport.
Ramón had a wonderfully dark and sarcastic sense of humor that his friends and family will deeply miss. He was the king of “sacar carrilla” and always spoke his mind. During the months leading up to his passing, he remained positive, stoic, and resilient. His faith in the Lord and in the Virgin of Guadalupe was unwavering.
We find solace in the fact that he has now joined his dear mother, father, and two sisters in heaven.
A rosary and mass in honor of Ramón will be held on Wednesday, August 9th, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish (272 N Rodriguez St, Nogales, AZ 85621) at 11 am and 12 pm, respectively.
