Robert "Shorty" Salinas, 71, passed away with his family by his side on July 4, 2022. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Carmen E. Salinas; Daughter Isabel Oroz (Alfredo Oroz); son, Robert P. Salinas (Myrna Cubillas); granddaughters from oldest to youngest, Rachel Talla-Oroz (Jorge Talla-Oroz), Corina Oroz, Marcela Salinas, Clarissa Salinas, Isabella Salinas, Paulenna Salinas and Carmela Salinas; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Houston Texas on August 11th 1950, Robert “Shorty” Salinas, started playing guitar at 14 years old. He began playing in the Sun Demons band at 17 years old and from there on continued in bands including Love LTD, Poor Boys, Festival, and Los Tocayos. Shorty is the fourth child of five, all of whom are musicians as well. Shorty was an auto body man and auto painter. He worked at Bill Breck Dodge for 40 years, Formula One for four years and Royal Buick for 5 years. His talented work was recognized many times at car shows where the cars he painted won first place in auto paint. He was one of the best in Tucson. In 1971 he married the love of his life Carmen Gallegos and were married for 51 years. They had a son, Buddy, and a daughter, Isabel. Shorty had seven granddaughters and adored every one of them. His selfless acts of love not only blessed his family but the people around him who knew him as a friend or co-worker. Shorty touched so many lives by his immense sense of humor and his endless humility.
Shorty fought the good fight and was taken to his Heavenly home on the Fourth of July. He is finally experiencing true freedom in the presence of our heavenly father. His presence here on earth made a tremendous impact on every person he knew. Shorty was surrounded by his family as he literally made his exit with fireworks in the sky.
The family is forever grateful for the overwhelming love and support shown in this unimaginable time.
