Ruben (Rocky) Carbajal passed away the 6th of April 2022 after a brief illness, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 95 years. Ruben Carbajal, devoted son of Joe Carbajal and Rosa Munoz Carbajal, was born in Morenci, Greenlee, Arizona on the 8th of February 1927. The Carbajal family subsequently relocated from Morenci to the Phoenix, Arizona area during the 1930’s. Ruben Carbajal and his family owned and operated the El Molino, a well-known and popular restaurant located in east Phoenix, AZ, for many years.
Rocky attended and graduated from Phoenix Union High School, where he excelled in varsity athletics. He was a Military veteran who served honorably with the US Navy Seabees Battalion in the Pacific combat theater during WW II from 1944-1946. The deceased lived in the Nogales, Santa Cruz, Arizona area for 24 years, and was employed in the local hospitality industry.
He will be remembered by family and friends as a generous and vivacious person with a friendly and outgoing personality. Ruben loved people and pets. He married Esther Caro Carbajal on 3 February 1947. She preceded him in death in in 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Paul, Richard, and Rosa Carbajal Khan.
Ruben (Rocky) Carbajal is survived by the following: daughter Elizabeth Carbajal Gallegos, RN, MS (Maj. USAF, Retired), son in-law, John H. Gallegos, two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. All survivors are Arizona and California residents.
Funeral arrangements include a Miliary Interment service at the National Military Cemetery, Phoenix, Arizona on 23 May 2022 at 10:30 AM.
