Shirley Jean Thompson

Shirley Jean Thompson, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away on May 16, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. She was a remarkable individual with a strong spirit and an unwavering commitment to her profession and family.

Born on December 13, 1946, in San Augustine, Texas, Shirley's journey was marked by numerous accomplishments and milestones. She graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to become a proud alumna of Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Throughout her esteemed career, Shirley made significant contributions to the field of pharmacy and was appointed to the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy by Governor Janet Napolitano. She was director of the outpatient pharmacy at Kino Community Hospital and a trailblazer in the field of pharmacy. Her dedication and passion for her work were truly commendable.

Shirley was not only a successful professional but also a vibrant personality who touched the lives of many with her wit, intelligence, and charm. Described as funny, sassy, and loving, she had a flair for fashion and was known for her exceptional cooking skills. As the matriarch of her family, Shirley exuded warmth and always welcomed others with open arms. Her presence lit up any room she entered.

One of Shirley's proudest accomplishments was being the first Black female pharmacist in Tucson, Arizona. She also took great pride in her sons and cherished moments spent with her grandchildren. Shirley found joy in simple pleasures like getting her nails done, following politics, engaging in interior design projects, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her loved ones.

In addition to her professional achievements, Shirley held a deep-rooted faith and was devoted to Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She prioritized family above all else and created lasting memories with her loved ones.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Floyd Thompson, Jr.. She is survived by her sons; Dr. Floyd Thompson III (Marisa), Matthew E. Thompson, Dr. Jason E. Thompson (Dr. Michelle), and Zachary M. Thompson (Dr. Alexandra); her cherished grandchildren; Floyd IV, Belén, Jason Jr., Nora Jean, and Drew; her brother Jerry G. Jones (Ann); nieces Angela A. Richard and BrookLynn Richard; as well as extended family and numerous close friends.

The legacy of Shirley Jean Thompson will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and love will continue to inspire generations to come.

Services to honor and celebrate Shirley's life will be held on May 31, 2024 beginning with a viewing from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and burial at 12:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery
