Vergie Mae Simpson, or Mama was born on April 17th, 1931 in DeKalb, Texas to the union of Mr. Jim Henry and Mrs. Sarah Holloway. However, she would be raised in love by Mr. Gus and Mrs. Annie B. Shaw.
Raised in church, she gladly accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age; vowing to never look back. Knowingly, she would proclaim" Without a doubt, I know Jesus is real to me".
While still living in Texas, she would married her husband, Mr. Willis Lee Simpson, and the two would later relocate to Marana, Arizona. However, they would later settle in Tucson, Arizona.
She lived a full life working in many capacities of a maid, caregiver, and midwife.
Despite only having had a 2nd grade education, she possessed a great understanding and wisdom that touched whomever crossed her path.
Her gift was simply to love and to serve others. As she stood on the foundation that with God, all things were possible. And it would be that very faith and compassion that made all fall in love with her.
She with a God-given genuineness strove to make sure others knew they were important, and were taken of. A simple ask would lead to her being there in no time to give a helping hand.
Her unconditional and non-judgmental approach helped to lead many to Christ, and to them being adopted as a part of her extended family.
Selflessly, she made sure that people knew who God was, and that they were never alone. Her motherly influence reached many far and wide; transcending race, religion, and, or appearance. She was just Mama, Granny, Ma, or Mother. And loved by all.
She would join and maintain her membership at Calvary Evangelistic Center for well over sixty years, under the leadership of Pastor Maynard and First Lady Martha Weisbrod until her death on April 5th, 2023.
As the Lord graced her with an extended time here with us, ninety-one years to be exact, she was the last living, oldest matriarch in the family.
