Victoria C. Cañez, beloved mother, sister, daughter, aunt, Godmother, wife to her soulmate Luis Canez, devoted friend, and dedicated member of the Tucson community, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona.
She was born on December 23, 1928, in Tucson and spent her entire life serving and caring for others.
From a young age, Victoria possessed a strong work ethic and a passion for helping those around her. At the tender age of 14, she began her career in sales at a department store in downtown Tucson. Her hard work and commitment led to numerous opportunities throughout her life. Eventually, she joined the Tucson Unified School District, where she devoted 25 years of her life.
Victoria started as a cashier in the school cafeteria but quickly rose through the ranks. She was promoted to the role of parent involvement aide, becoming a liaison between parents and the school. Her dedication to fostering strong partnerships between families and educational institutions made a lasting impact on countless students' lives.
Known for always having a kind word to share, Victoria brightened countless lives with her warm and caring nature. She had a special way of making everyone feel heard and valued. A great listener and friend, she made connections effortlessly. Throughout the community, Victoria's selflessness left an indelible mark.
In addition to her professional achievements, Victoria took great pride in being a mother to her only child, Richard Luis Cañez. Her love for him knew no bounds, and she spoke of him with unwavering pride. She cherished their moments together and nurtured Richard with unparalleled devotion.
Outside of her career and family life, Victoria had varied interests that brought her immense joy. She loved cooking and sharing her delicious creations with loved ones. One of Victoria's favorite sayings was "there's dessert!" After everyone had their fill at mealtime gatherings, she would delightfully announce the arrival of dessert with this phrase. It was just one example of her joyous spirit and ability to bring happiness to those around her.
Music was another passion of Victoria's, as she could often be heard humming along to tunes that captured her heart.
In her leisure time, she would often be found engrossed in game shows and soap operas on television, finding delight in the stories unfolding before her eyes. Word searches were a favorite pastime, as she relished the challenge of deciphering hidden words. Victoria dedicated time to reading her Daily Word, always seeking knowledge and spiritual guidance.
Driven by faith, Victoria held a deep religious conviction that guided both her personal and professional life. Her devotion to attending mass at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Roman Catholic Church brought her solace and strength. Through prayer and active participation, she found comfort in her unwavering belief.
Victoria was preceded in death by the love of her life Luis Cañez, her parents, Simon and Jacinta Carranza; sisters, Carmen Camacho and Connie Perez; brothers, Cornelio Carranza, Simon Carranza III, Alfonso Carranza, Angel Carranza, Simon Carranza Jr., and Raul Carranza; sister, Hermenia Yanez, and nephews, Mark Edward Perez and Robert Carranza.
