William Albert Payne

William Albert Payne, 80, passed away at his home in Rio Rico, AZ on September 16, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years: Aline Payne.  They married in Danville, Indiana on November 24, 1956. He is also survived by his Sons: William Payne Jr and Kenneth Byron Payne; Daughters: Valerie and Laura Lee Lawson; Sisters: Joyce Jeffery and Karen Coffman; 12 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

William (Bill) A. Payne was born on November 8,1938, an election day, in Marienville, Pennsylvania, to Albert and Alice Payne.  He and his family moved to Indiana ten years later, where he was raised by his father and step mother Peggy. After high school, he joined the United States Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Aline E. Hirschman, on November 24,1956, and together they had four children:  Valerie, William Junior, Lauralee, and Kenneth.  After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he went to work for Linde in Speedway, Indiana, at $2.50 an hour. He stayed with the company for his entire career, even as it was bought first by Union Carbide and later by Praxair. While working and raising a family he obtained an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, and gradually rose in rank in the company until he retired in 2004 as Director of Thermal Coatings Technologies. Bill loved life, his wife Aline, and family, and was passionate about several hobbies including inventing, sailing, hiking,and bird watching.  He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and dog.
